Cox Campus launches exciting new courses in partnership with the Atlanta Speech School’s Rollins Center for Language and Literacy

The Atlanta Speech School’s Rollins Center for Language and Literacy and Cox Campus partnered with internationally recognized scholar, author, and literacy advocate, Dr. Maryanne Wolf, to create a Virtual Book Study based on her newest book Reader, Come Home: The Deep Reading Brain in a Digital World. Brownieland was excited to create the videos for this incredible new addition to the Cox Campus!

According to the Cox Campus website, Dr. Maryanne Wolf and other researchers have determined how we can end our country’s illiteracy epidemic and construct each child’s reading brain. In her book Reader, Come Home, Dr. Wolf offers a call to action: construct children’s deep reading brains through print, and use technology to fuel rather than endanger them. Julian Girdham, head of the English Department at St Columba College in Dublin, writes in a recent article, “Reader, Come Home: the reading brain in a digital world (2018) is an elegant and insightful analysis of how deep reading is under threat, and of how this particular form of attention is being eroded by the digital universe in which we now live.” Explore Cox Campus where you can watch Dr. Wolf’s personal messages and the Atlanta Speech School’s roundtable discussions. Watch the videos HERE.Coming up soon, Cox Campus will launch a new course called Small Group Instruction (SGI) featuring videos Brownieland created in partnership with the Atlanta Speech School. The SGI course will feature videos that show how teachers and students benefit from small group instruction. Teachers use SGI to instruct children in a one-on-one environment, allowing students to receive more focused interaction with the teachers. By using this method, teachers can evaluate where each student is in a group setting, which helps to save time in the classroom. Be sure to check out Cox Campus to find out more!
