For our May Volunteer Project, the Brownieland Team lent a hand to The Sandwich Project, a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to providing sandwiches to the homeless and food insecure families in the Atlanta area through an ever growing network of volunteer sandwich makers across the city. We had fun making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and found the website extremely informative regarding the process of making and delivering sandwiches. The abundance of drop-off locations made the delivery process effortless. Learn more about this incredible nonprofit and how you can get involved!

Their Story:
The Sandwich Project is a grassroots nonprofit organization addressing food insecurity in metro Atlanta. Our organization operates through a network of dedicated volunteers who create and deliver fresh, homemade sandwiches to individuals facing food insecurity. We firmly believe in the transformative power of community, compassion, kindness, and the fundamental right of every person to access nourishing food.
Our journey began in early 2020 when the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic became evident, affecting the lives of countless individuals, including our neighbors who were struggling with food insecurity. A group of friends initiated The Sandwich Project in response to this crisis, and the community swiftly rallied behind this cause. Together, we began producing thousands of sandwiches each week, supplementing them with fresh fruit and protein bars, and establishing host homes where volunteers could drop off these essential supplies.
Even as the immediate threat of COVID-19 started to wane, we recognized that other ongoing factors continued to force some of our neighbors into the agonizing choice between purchasing healthy food for their families or paying for housing. Since our inception, The Sandwich Project has significantly helped by donating over a million sandwiches and thousands of pounds of nutritious food to large and small non-profit organizations dedicated to assisting individuals needing sustenance.
Our mission remains resolute: to combat food insecurity in our community, to foster a community spirit of service, and to ensure that everyone has access to enough nourishing food to sustain a healthy lifestyle. We are immensely grateful for the support of our volunteers and the wider community, whose dedication enables us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate community.
