The Brownieland Team had a fantastic day volunteering with Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta as part of their Mitzvah Day program. This program welcomes young professionals from around Atlanta to give back to the community through different JF&CS volunteer projects. We were honored to contribute to meaningful community outreach projects, such as assembling care packages to support the volunteers in the One Good Deed program.

The One Good Deed (OGD) initiative matches older adults with compassionate volunteers who meet twice a month for companionship and support. These volunteers help their recipients with simple but impactful activities like running errands, sharing meals, and offering friendship. Over its 18-year history, the program has matched over 500 seniors with friendly visitors, enriching the lives of both the volunteers and the recipients.
The roots of this impactful program trace back to 2005 when Marty Halpern and his wife Lisa, inspired by their trip to Israel, witnessed firsthand the effects of loneliness and isolation on older adults. Marty was determined to bring change back to his Metro Atlanta community, which led to the founding of One Good Deed in 2006. A couple of years later, a fund from Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta allowed the program to continue as an independent nonprofit, and the program is still going strong eighteen years later! JF&CS celebrated this remarkable milestone at their One Good Deed 18th Anniversary Luncheon.
