Happy Halloween! In honor of this spooky holiday, we wanted to share Rotten Tomatoes Top 100 Scariest Television shows of all time. And to add to the ghoulish delight, we asked some Brownieland folks to pick their favorites from the list and why they are dying to watch them over and over.
Randy chose the avant garde classic Twin Peaks:
“I saw David Lynch’s Blue Velvet at a Columbus, Ga theater on a summer day back in 1986, and as I walked out into the hot mid-day sun I recalled thinking “I don’t know what that was, but I liked it.” It definitely changed the way I viewed movies, figuratively speaking. Twin Peaks was similar. I can’t see a red curtain without thinking about the show.”
Robyn’s favorite horror show is The Twilight Zone:
“Growing up in California, we had a Thanksgiving Twilight Zone marathon every year on KTLA. My brother and I would sequester ourselves in the back bedroom at my Grandma’s house and watch as many as we could stand. My favorite episode is hard to choose, but I would say it’s a toss up between Time Enough at Last, with Burgess Meredith as the librarian, and A Stop at Willoughby, about a man who yearns for a simpler time.” Brownieland is such a Twilight Zone fan that the unofficial mascot is named Willoughby.
Kat went more contemporary and chose True Blood:
“One of my favorite shows to watch around Halloween is True Blood. Yes, some seasons were better than others. But when it was good, it was sink-your-teeth-in GOOD! Speaking of which, I appreciate that the show not only depicted vampires but an array of beings that make for fantastic classic Halloween costumes like werewolves, werepanthers, faeries, shapeshifters, and let’s not forget the Maenad! Yet, the thing I love most about the show is the comedy. I appreciate the way they managed to weave in classic horror movie storylines with deeper subject matters and then peppered it with kitsch. This is what has kept me coming back for more!”
