Brownieland November Volunteer Project featuring The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta Holiday Can-A-Thon

For our November Brownieland Volunteer Project, the Brownieland Team participated in The Salvation Army Holiday Can-A-Thon, a canned food collection drive and partnership between Publix, 11Alive, and The Salvation Army that helps people in metro Atlanta and North Georgia who are food insecure.

There are a variety of ways that you can help families in need through The Salvation Army’s Holiday Can-A-Thon campaign. On Friday, December 3rd, donate non-perishable food items, canned goods, dry goods, baby formula, and baby food at three locations throughout metro Atlanta, offering contact-less drop-off opportunities. All donations stock The Salvation Army’s thirteen metro Atlanta-area food pantries and will be delivered to food-insecure families by the end of the year. If you can’t make it to a drop-off location, there are other ways to give back. The Brownieland Team contributed to the campaign through their Amazon Prime Can-A-Thon Shopping List. You can also offer assistance by making a financial donation online.

The Salvation Army offers additional programs to be of service during the holiday season. Stop by a Salvation Army Angel Tree and adopt an angel. The Angel tag provides the Angel’s first name, age, gender, size, and the item(s) they would like or need. After purchasing new gifts for your Angel, you return the items to the location where your Angel was selected or one of the designated drop-off locations. You can also adopt an angel online and have the gifts shipped directly to the Angel Tree Warehouse. Find out more HERE.

Throughout winter, The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta provides the Red Shield Services Cold Weather Shelter Program on nights when the temperature is 40 degrees or below. The purpose of The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Red Shield Services Emergency and Transitional Housing Facility (Red Shield Shelter) is to provide strategic intervention, refuge, and safe lodging for homeless men, women, and families with children in crisis. The focus of this program is to provide emergency, transitional, and recovery programs that empower people of all ages to begin their transition to stable independence; by discovering and overcoming the root causes of their homelessness. Find out more about this incredible program HERE.

As stated on the Salvation Army’s website: One in four children in metro Atlanta lives in a food insecure home. Parents struggle to feed their families and rely on the help of the Salvation Army’s food pantry to get by. With a 130-year legacy, the Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta’s mission centers on homelessness services, youth enrichment, and anti-trafficking. The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta’s commitment and expertise in these areas across a 13-county footprint helps to impact long-term positive change for people who seek support.
