Brownieland’s commitment continues with upcoming Atlanta Speech School Collaboration

Brownieland has worked with the Atlanta Speech School, bringing the Rollins Center for Language & Literacy, Cox Campus courses to life for more than 12 years. They haven’t slowed down a minute! Now with more than 250,000 members on their free online learning platform, the Speech School keeps us hoping– and thinking about all the ways we can make the “most difference in the lives of others.” This is the charge that Atlanta Speech School has for each of their children on campus, and the organization enacts this philosophy with no exception. Brownieland is proud to present the following roster of projects for the Atlanta Speech School:

  • Implicit Bias: A course focused on the biases we all carry – often unknowingly – that influence how we think, behave and interact with others.  The course guides students through the ways one can recognize biases and commit to a more equitable classroom.
  • Spanish Content: Our roster will also include two courses focused on infants and toddlers, the first is called Primeras Conversaciones (First Conversations) and is centered around ways to talk with children and advance their language skills. The second course is called Primeras Lecturas (First Read Alouds) and is focused on practices for reading books with children to advance language, literacy, and critical thinking. The courses are intended for Spanish-speaking adults who care for and teach infants and toddlers.
  • Literacy & Justice for All (LJFA): The wrap up video gives a 5000 foot view of the citywide, language centered ecosystem that, started by the Speech School and funded by the United Way through the Whitehead Foundation, started in the City of Marietta in the 2021-22 school year and spans the language to literacy continuum from birth through third grade. Now additionally in 9 Atlanta Schools and 30 Atlanta Early Care and Learning settings, the video gives a window into the work of these first couple of years.
  • A Day in the Life: Beginning with their Katherine Hamm Center for preschool aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing, we are filming a series of videos of each of their schools, showcasing the “Speech School Difference” – the deep connections, conversational partnership and “deep reading brain construction” that make the School such an amazing place.

We hope that our members will anticipate our upcoming collaboration and tune in when it’s made available to the public. We look forward to unveiling yet another project with an organization that is so near and dear to our hearts.
