For our May Volunteer Project, the Brownieland Team spent the day at PAWS Atlanta, a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter with a mission to build a community of caring, by people helping pets and pets helping people. It was a heartwarming experience that brought together teamwork, furry friends, and a shared mission: to support animals in need.
Founded in 1966, PAWS Atlanta has been a staple in the metro Atlanta area, providing shelter, medical care, adoption services, and education to thousands of animals and families each year. Their mission is not only to care for homeless pets but also to find them loving, forever homes. With services ranging from low-cost vaccine clinics to pet adoption, PAWS Atlanta is a beacon of compassion and commitment to animal welfare in our community.
When we arrived at the PAWS Atlanta campus, our team was ready to roll up our sleeves and grab some paintbrushes. One of the main goals of the day was to give a fresh coat of paint to the Dog Intake area, an essential space where incoming pups are cared for before they transition to the adoption floor. According to Sam Long, Volunteer and Corporate Relationship Manager, this project helped the team get one step closer to reopening the space. “Phillip, our Facilities Manager, especially appreciated the extra hands. This would have taken him at least twice as long without your help!” Sam shared.
Of course, no day at an animal shelter would be complete without some furry interactions and our hearts were absolutely full. We spent time with Palmer, who we like to think got a little extra luck from our visit before heading into her successful adoption appointment (she found a loving home!). We also had the joy of meeting Peter Parker, the face of PAWS Atlanta’s Mission PAWSsible campaign. He made some new friends during our visit and definitely stole the show.
But perhaps the biggest highlight? Seeing DJ Khaled, an adorable kitten with a big personality, get adopted by our very own Nathaniel and Lydia! Knowing that our time at the shelter helped this sweet cat find a forever home was truly the icing on the cake.
We’re grateful to PAWS Atlanta for welcoming us and giving us the chance to contribute in a meaningful way. As Sam shared, “Y’all were a tremendous help today! We can’t wait to see you again!”
