Summer offers a pivotal time for nonprofit organizations to deliver programs that significantly contribute to the educational development of participants. These initiatives provide opportunities for continued learning, skill-building, and academic enrichment, helping to mitigate the summer learning loss often experienced by students. Moreover, these programs foster social and emotional growth by emphasizing teamwork, leadership skills, and positive peer interactions. Through a diverse array of activities including recreational pursuits, arts and cultural experiences, and community service projects, participants cultivate a deep sense of belonging and connection to their community. Summer camp programs play a multifaceted role in communities, supporting youth development, fostering community cohesion, promoting health and wellness, offering family support, and nurturing essential skills. Overall, nonprofit summer programs play a crucial role in the holistic development of individuals and communities, encouraging lifelong learning, strengthening community ties, and empowering participants to realize their full potential.
Atlanta nonprofit organizations excel in creating impactful summer programs that enrich our community, and Brownieland is proud to highlight some remarkable partnerships with these organizations over the years to spotlight these initiatives.
Mayor’s Summer Reading Club
The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club promotes literacy by selecting city-wide books for infants and children up to age five, distributed at no cost to families. Brownieland was honored to work with MSRC to create the video announcing the 2019 MSRC book choice, In My Granny’s Garden by Pearl Cleage and Zaron W. Burnette, Jr. with illustrations by Atlanta artist, Radcliffe Bailey.
Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta
The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta’s Jewish Camp Initiative offers immersive experiences that build confidence and nurture Jewish identity, influencing lifelong behaviors. Federation’s Jewish Camp Initiative sends kids to Jewish overnight camp by providing necessary grants and scholarships. The experiences kids have at summer camp help them form a lifetime bond to their Jewish community. Brownieland was thrilled to partner with JFGA to produce their fun “Overnight Camp” video.
Agnes Scott College
Since 1889, Agnes Scott College has empowered students to fulfill their potential through an innovative liberal arts education. Brownieland was honored to partner with Agnes Scott to produce a video for their summer program called “Shakespeare and Digital Storytelling,” a two-week summer institute for twenty-five English teachers of grades 9-12, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
Fugees Family
Additionally, The Fugees Family collaborated with Agnes Scott College on a specialized summer academic program focused on language, math, arts, and physical fitness, tailored specifically for refugee youth. The curriculum was developed by Agnes Scott Professor of Education, Toby Emert, especially for the Fugees, delivered in small groups by qualified teachers. Brownieland collaborated with Agnes Scott College to produce this remarkable video showcasing The Agnes Scott College Fugees Partnership.
