Brownieland May Volunteer Project featuring Kate’s Club Memory Walk

For our May Brownieland Volunteer Project, the Brownieland Team participated in the Kate’s Club Memory Walk!

Kate’s Club empowers children and teens facing life after the death of a parent, sibling, or caregiver. For the annual 2021 Memory Walk, special emphasis was placed on everyone in the Kate’s Club community who has been affected by COVID-19 in one way or another, whether that be by death, loss of ritual, or separation. Participants could register to walk in one of four designated parks or their own neighborhood. Teams who signed up to walk in a park were encouraged to bring a picnic, some games, and hang out. The walkers who stayed in their neighborhoods were encouraged to participate in the traditional Memory Walk activities.

The theme this year, “We Come Together as One,” inspires everyone, no matter location or connection to Kate’s Club, to join in walking for a stronger community. Kate’s Club is keeping the fundraising open through the end of the year. Find out more HERE.

Since 2003, Kate’s Club has created healing communities that allow grieving children and their families to express their emotions, remember their loved ones, develop healthy coping skills, and know that they are not alone. Kate’s Club offers therapeutic programming to help children and teens establish healthy support systems and develop the necessary skills to cope effectively with their grief – a foundation that Kate’s Club believes is critical to supporting children who must cope with a tragic loss.

Kate’s Club fosters positive social and emotional development through four main programs, including:

  • Support Services – therapeutic group activities designed and led by licensed professionals
  • Club Outings to sporting events – exhibits, and community service activities around Atlanta
  • Camp Good Mourning – a three-day overnight summer camp at Camp Twin Lakes
  • KC Connects – a collaboration with partner schools and afterschool programs to bring Kate’s Club’s services directly to grieving children.

Kate’s Club offers top-quality social and therapeutic programming designed specifically for grieving children and their families. Programs are led by professionals and trained volunteers and designed and overseen by a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Recreation Therapist. Kate’s Club is the only program of its kind in Metro Atlanta. Learn more about this incredible nonprofit organization HERE.
