Brownieland Celebrates National Make a Difference Day: Honoring Our Community and Nonprofits

Brownieland Pictures Celebrates National Make a Difference Day

National Make a Difference Day, celebrated this year on October 26, is the largest national day of community service in the United States. It’s a day where people across the country come together to create positive change and make a lasting impact on their communities. Whether through volunteering, supporting local businesses, or engaging in acts of kindness, Make a Difference Day encourages everyone to step up, take action, and lift others up.

At Brownieland Pictures, giving back is woven into our mission of making a difference. Through the years, we have partnered with a variety of Atlanta nonprofits and shared their stories for the greater good. The Brownieland Team was so inspired by our volunteer work during our #10in10 Volunteer Campaign that we have continued lending a hand to a different nonprofit each month. To date, we have volunteered with over 60 organizations across metro Atlanta and have seen first-hand the amazing work they do. Every day, we are grateful for our work with Atlanta’s nonprofit organizations and hope this inspires you to make a difference in your community.

Below are some impactful ways you can honor National Make a Difference Day and contribute to your community’s well-being.

Ways to Honor National Make a Difference Day

Celebrate with Gratitude

Gratitude lies at the core of service. Take time to learn about the organizations in your community that work tirelessly to make a difference. The Brownieland Team is grateful for nonprofits making a difference in communities every day, and we are honored to support these remarkable Atlanta organizations. We also recognize the organizations that provide guidance, grants, and partnerships enabling nonprofits to continue to impact the lives of people in their communities and beyond. There are many ways to show gratitude to these organizations, like lending a helping hand or giving back to the community. One of the advantages of connecting with local nonprofits is that we get a chance to discover all kinds of programs ranging from organizations that support women-owned businesses to nonprofits that promote literacy. Showing gratitude can be as simple as volunteering, making a donation, or supporting a nonprofit that resonates with you. As Douglas Wood says, “The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.”

Random Acts of Kindness

Small, spontaneous gestures can make a huge difference. We believe in the power of kindness to uplift communities and inspire change. Our collaborations and volunteer work with nonprofits have shown us that even small acts have a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same. Research confirms that kindness reduces stress and fosters a sense of belonging. Whether it’s buying someone’s coffee, volunteering at a food bank, or assisting at an event, these moments create a story of compassion that strengthens communities and promotes a healthier society for all. Look for opportunities to serve and spread kindness daily—each action contributes to a brighter, more connected world.

Buy with Purpose: Support Small and Women-Owned Businesses

Our purchase decisions can be a form of community support. As a woman-owned business, Brownieland knows that buying from small or women-owned businesses helps fuel their growth. Over the years, we’ve encountered incredible organizations that uplift and empower these businesses like the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, ACE Women’s Business Center, Center for Black Women’s Wellness, City of Atlanta’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, Greater Women’s Business Council, Jewish Women’s Fund of Atlanta, and Women’s Employment Opportunity Project. These organizations spur community growth, empowerment, and economic impact. Choosing to support local and minority-owned businesses is a form of socially responsible purchasing that strengthens our community, builds a more inclusive economy, and leaves a positive impact.

Volunteer in the Community

At Brownieland Pictures, volunteering is at the heart of our mission to create lasting, positive change. National Make a Difference Day serves as a reminder of the collective impact we can make when we join together in service. Our team is proud to collaborate with local nonprofits, supporting their essential work both through our storytelling and hands-on involvement. Volunteering not only strengthens communities by filling critical service gaps, such as mentoring and providing support, but it also offers countless benefits to individuals, from improved mental well-being to greater social connections and a deepened sense of civic responsibility. By sharing our time and skills, we help build a more compassionate, resilient community. We invite others to get involved with organizations like Hands On Atlanta, The Junior League of Atlanta, Pebble Tossers, Park Pride and the United Way of Greater Atlanta to experience the transformative power of service. Together, we can make a meaningful difference—one act of kindness at a time.

National Make a Difference Day reminds us all that anyone can have a positive impact, no matter how small the effort may seem. Whether through volunteering, random acts of kindness, or buying with purpose, every contribution counts. At Brownieland Pictures, we are honored to continue our mission of creating stories for the greater good and uplifting the nonprofits that make Atlanta a better place. This October 26th, let’s all come together to celebrate, serve, and make a difference!
